Flowers From 2005

I just stumbled on these photographs I took in 2005, when I first started making photographs. It's amazing to think that at that time, I literally photographed anything and everything. I had absolutely no inhibitions. I never thought, "Well what does this photograph mean?" I just looked at things and photographed them.

Part of me wishes that would come back, the other part loves thinking about images in a critical way and conceptualizing before the making even starts. I think good art is truly a balance of these two things. Where can you fall between pure curiosity and a strong conceptual idea? And then, I think an art career is the journey of finding that middle ground.
